An important update from our family team
Greendale Teahouse & Rooms has closed permanently
After three very full years at Greendale, we wanted to share an important update with our guests, customers, suppliers, and everyone who has so warmly supported us.
Greendale Teahouse & Rooms has now closed permanently.
Our final day of trading in the tearoom was Monday, 25 May 2026.
We know this news will come as a shock to many people, and we are very aware of that. Greendale has become part of many people’s routines, celebrations, holidays, walks, and quiet days out, which makes this announcement all the more difficult to share.
Greendale Teahouse & Rooms has been a huge part of our lives since June 2023. Over that time, our small family team has given everything we could to homemade food, thoughtful hospitality, comfortable rooms, special events, and a warm welcome in a beautiful part of Lancashire.
We are proud of what Greendale became. We are also deeply grateful to the many people who helped make it possible.
Why we’ve had to leave
Our departure follows notice served on us by the current leaseholders as our licence agreement reached the end of its initial term.
After notice was served, we actively explored whether there was a workable route for us to remain at Greendale. But unfortunately, the terms available did not provide the long-term security, clarity, or commercial basis we would need to continue running the business responsibly in the years ahead.
We have therefore - with a heavy heart - accepted that our time at Greendale has come to an end. Our focus now is on working on our new venture with the same care that has shaped Greendale over the past three years. We know people may have questions about what happens next at the premises. We’re not able to answer those questions, as any future use of the site will be a matter for others after we have left.
Greendale Teahouse & Rooms as people have known it since June 2023 has been operated by our family team. If hospitality continues on the site in future, it will be under different management and will be separate from the business, food, service, and guest experience we have created here.
What we will remember most is the people.
The regular customers who came back week after week. The overnight guests who returned time and again. The walkers who planned their routes around lunch. The cyclists enjoying a cheeky Belgian beer or Rum Truffle Cake. The Real Italian Escapers. The dogs who became part of the place. The suppliers, collaborators, and friends who helped us feel welcome and rooted here.
Greendale has been full of birthdays, anniversaries, quiet lunches, busy weekends, special evenings, muddy boots, breakfast conversations, and small moments of kindness that meant more to us than people may realise.
Running a small hospitality business takes a great deal of work, and there have naturally been difficult days along the way. But there have also been many moments of pride, humour, encouragement, and genuine connection.
We will always be grateful for the support we have received during our time here.
What Greendale has meant to us
Thank you
Thank you to everyone who has visited, stayed, returned, recommended us, reviewed us, encouraged us, collaborated with us, supplied us, worked with us, and cheered us on.
Greendale has never just been a building to us. It has been the place where our family team worked hard to create something with care, personality, and heart.
We will miss the view, the regular faces, the morning light in the tearoom, the conversations at the pass, the guests arriving with walking boots and muddy dogs, the quiet satisfaction of a full dining room, and the privilege of being part of so many people’s birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, and ordinary days out.
We are sad to be leaving, but proud of what we have been able to do here. We are working carefully on what comes next and will share more when the time is right. If you would like to stay in touch with us and follow us on our future journey, you can subscribe to our newsletter by completing the form at the bottom of this page.
With our sincere thanks,
Michael, Zoe, Caroline & Neil
